In 2020, I built my own AI to help understand myself and all the data that connected back to my daily life. It pulled together my smartwatch data, healthcare records, finances, emails & messages - essentially creating my own “databox.” It told me when to exercise, when to cut back on spending, even when to drink less. It was eye opening. However, without my knowledge, the app had a conversation with my then-girlfriend. That’s when I saw firsthand how much control technology could have over our information. I knew that privacy needed to be reimagined, and Cloaked was born.
Cloaked started as a way to take back control of our identity through unique identities that made it difficult to aggregate information about us. We started with unique phone numbers, emails, passwords as a way to make it easy to control what people share and with whom. As we grew, we knew fixing the problem of data sharing going forward wouldn't be enough, we had to take back control of the data out there.
This involves cleaning and safeguarding our existing information. With a goal to safeguard people’s past, present, and future data, Cloaked expanded beyond identity creation. We built technologies like data removal to clean up leaked information, an AI-powered spam & scam blocker to prevent unwanted communication, and are building innovative new features like Cloaked Pay for safer online payment transactions. Our goal is simple: to make privacy effortless, so you never have to trade security for convenience. Because privacy shouldn’t be an afterthought - it should be the default.
The rise of AI has made privacy harder to protect. But we’re using AI to fight back against AI. We’re committed to constant innovation, using AI to detect threats, remove personal data, and help people stay protected. This is a long fight, and we’re in it for the long haul.
We came out of beta in October 2023. Today, we have a community of over 100,000 users. And our commitment towards bringing more awareness through discussions and policies around data privacy and security only grows stronger.
Privacy is a fundamental right. Together, we’re making it the norm.
Thank you for being part of this movement, we’re just getting started!
